Two wins and four points on weekend; team sympathies extended on passing of Denzel Crowder

The North Dundas Rockets entered the weekend shorthanded in terms of personnel, and yet managed to come away with two wins and four points.
Friday, October 20th, the team traveled to Blackburn Hamlet to take on the Inferno and came away with a 7 to 3 win on the backs of Chris Marchand and Bryden van Kessel who each had 2 goals in the game. Brodie Barkley, Justin Lefebvre and Landon Veenstra each contributed to the win with a goals. Jason Buma got the win.
Saturday, October 21st, we played host to the South Grenville Ranger and fought our way to a 4 to 2 win in a great defensive effort. Justin Lefbvre lead the way with two goals, while Brodie Barkley and Brad Stitt cashed in the other two. The boys had an outstanding defensive effort in the third period, proving that this team can win in a variety of ways, and is learning what it takes to win tough hockey games.
As General Manager I was extremely impressed with the effort this past weekend. When we were putting together the roster for the weekend missing Shawn Simms (Injury), Zack Towns (Injury), Dylan Nixon (Illness), and Connor Roth (Out of Town) there was cause for concern; or at least a little anxiety. It was all for nothing at the end of the day because the depth this team has really showed. We had great leadership and work ethic from the vets in the lineup, and got some welcome help from four local midget affiliates, Justin Shay, Curtis Barkley, Travis McgInnis and Ben Medynski.
On a sad note, the North Dundas Rockets would like to extend their deepest sympathies in light of the recent passing of Inkerman Rocket Denzel Crowder. Denzil was a local hockey pioneer and supporter, players like him formed the foundation for hockey in North Dundas over years. To put it simply; hockey has lost another special person this week. On a personal hockey side note it seems as though the community has lost a few good hockey people recently, in Pete van Kessel Sr., Bob Youmelle, Percy Armstrong and now Denzil Crowder. It’s important to remember that people like this have paved the way in hockey for our community, and as a club we would like to thank them, and acknowledge all their efforts and time.
This weekend coming the Rockets travel to Gatineau to play the Volants in a first place showdown at the Robert Geurtin Arena. The next Rockets home game is Saturday, October 28th in Chesterville against the Clarence Castors with the puck dropping at 7:30pm. The Rockets will also be hosting their annual Halloween dance at the Legion following the game, all are welcomed to take in the game and the dance.
